What we do

Gas central heating in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Most central heating problems in Aberdeen homes come down to one of three things: sludge in the system, unbalanced flow, or a knackered pump. We diagnose which one it is before we start work — there's no point fitting a new pump if the system is full of black iron oxide sludge that will just kill it within a year. We power-flush where needed, balance the flow so every radiator gets its fair share, and replace valves and pumps where they've reached end of life.

Common heating problems we fix

  • Cold radiators in one room, hot in another
  • Radiators hot at the bottom and cold at the top (air in the system)
  • Radiators cold at the top and hot at the bottom (sludge)
  • Banging or knocking pipes when the boiler fires up
  • Pump making a constant whining noise
  • Thermostat reading the wrong temperature
  • Want to zone the heating so different rooms run at different times
  • Want to add or replace a radiator

What we do

How a Belmont visit usually runs.

  1. 1Inspect the system, identify whether it's air, sludge, balance, or pump
  2. 2Bleed and re-pressurise where the issue is air
  3. 3Power flush where there's iron oxide sludge
  4. 4Re-balance flow rates so every radiator runs to temperature
  5. 5Replace failed thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) and pumps
  6. 6Add new radiators where you need more heat in a room
  7. 7Fit smart heating controls and zone valves where you want app control
  8. 8Test on the day, leave the system stable and the paperwork with you

Frequently asked

Questions we get asked about gas central heating.

Why is my radiator cold at the bottom but hot at the top?
Almost always sludge — iron oxide and limescale settling in the bottom of the radiator. The fix is a power flush of the system, sometimes combined with a new inhibitor dose. Don't ignore it; sludge eventually kills the pump and the boiler.
Why is my radiator hot at the bottom but cold at the top?
Air trapped at the top. Bleeding the radiator usually solves it. If the air keeps coming back, there's a leak somewhere drawing air in, or the system pressure is too low.
Do I really need a power flush?
Only if the system has sludge. We'll inspect first. Power flushes are sometimes oversold by installers — we'll tell you honestly whether yours needs one. If yes, we do it properly. If no, you save the money.
How long does a full central heating install take?
A complete system (boiler, radiators, pipework, controls) is typically three to five days depending on the size of the property and whether we're working around existing fittings. We'll quote a fixed timeline before we start.
Can you zone my heating so different rooms run at different times?
Yes. Either with thermostatic radiator valves and a smart thermostat, or with a full zoned system using motorised valves. The right approach depends on the property — we'll talk you through it on the day.
Do you replace radiators?
Yes — straight swaps, like-for-like replacements, or new radiators in rooms that didn't have one before. Towel rails for bathrooms, vertical designer radiators if that's the look.
